CDM for a Taxonomy Community
The EDIT Platform for Cybertaxonomy "Community Installation" is a software suite supporting communities of taxonomists who wish to work collaboratively on a common data store over the Internet. It consists of a central data store installed in one of the participating institutions. Users belonging to the Intranet of this institution have access to this data store using the EDIT desktop taxonomic Editor directly. Users, who do not belong to this Intranet, will have remote access to this data store using the Desktop Taxonomic Editor within a Virtual Desktop environment. Remote access capabilities can be setup using "Ulteo Virtual Desktop" or "Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop". The Community installation comes with a World Wide Web portal, which is used to publish the taxonomic data electronically. The portal's design is highly configurable and can be adapted to the particular needs of a given taxonomic community.
